For a long time I have been fascinated with these geometric hanging planters or mini terrariums. In this project the goal was to create something entirely out of paper without following any instructions. I decided to make one such terrarium.
I avoided looking at any examples of succulents made of paper or interpretations on this theme, however works of other artists I have seen before, probably played a role with inspiration. The interesting part was resolving how to draw the elements and design the 3 dimensional plants and terrarium structure. Glue was used of course. I used white paper, which I dyed with watercolour. The stones are made of crumbled dyed paper. The girl inside with the watering can added an element of narrative - like a human terrarium.
Spending a day away from the computer and solving different kind of problems than I am used to, has inspired me tremendously. Studies have shown that performing novel tasks wakes up our brain and respectively boosts creativity and motivation. I definitely felt this effect, as I am now filled with ideas of posters and art I can make with paper cutting and playing with paper and color. These are my first attempts of paper cutting too.
